Gutter Installation Costs in 2023

If you're considering replacing your gutters, you'll want to have an idea of what the project might cost.

In this article, we'll provide a breakdown of the cost of new gutters, so you can plan accordingly.

Factors That Affect the Cost of New Gutters

The cost of new gutters varies, depending on the following factors:

  • Material: The type of material you choose for your gutters will affect the cost. The most common materials for gutters are aluminum, vinyl, copper, and steel.

  • Length and Size: The length and size of your gutters will also affect the cost. The longer and wider your gutters, the more expensive they will be.

  • Installation: The cost of installation can vary depending on the complexity of the job. If your home has multiple stories or a complicated roofline, the installation may take longer and be more expensive.

  • Extras: Additional features such as gutter guards or downspout extensions can also add to the cost.

Average Cost of New Gutters

The average cost of new gutters can range from $5 to $30+ per linear foot, with an average cost of around $10 per linear foot. This means that for a 2,000 square foot home, the cost of new gutters can range from $900 to $6,000.

Choice of Gutter Material Greatly Affects Cost

Aluminum gutters are the most popular choice for homeowners, due to their affordability, durability, and low maintenance. Most of the new gutter installs we provide are utilizing aluminum gutter systems.

The average material cost for aluminum gutters is around $5 to $8 per linear foot.

Vinyl gutters can be even more affordable, averaging around $3 to $5 per linear foot for material cost. However, we usually don't recommend vinyl gutters... as they are not as durable and may crack or become brittle over time.

Copper and steel gutters are the most expensive options, with copper averaging around $20 per linear foot and steel around $10 to $15 per linear foot. However, these materials are more durable and can last for up to 50 years with proper maintenance.

When to Replace Your Gutters

Knowing when to replace your gutters is important for the overall health of your home.

If your gutters are old, damaged, or leaking, they may not be doing their job properly, which can lead to water damage and other issues. Here are some signs that it's time to replace your gutters:

Visible Damage: Look for cracks, holes, or rust on your gutters. If you see any visible damage, it's time to replace them.

Water Damage: If you notice water stains on your walls or ceilings, it may be a sign that your gutters are leaking and need to be replaced.

Sagging or Pulling Away: If your gutters are sagging or pulling away from your home, it's a sign that they're not properly attached and need to be replaced.

Peeling Paint: If you notice paint peeling on your home's exterior, it may be a sign of water damage caused by faulty gutters.
